Ferinhiet is only used in the United States, and Celsius is used every where else in the world. The thermometer on the left uses an alcohol that has a red dye in it. But some other thermometers use mecury. The reason the line moves up on the thermometer when it gets hot is beacause the liquid expands in the tube and moves up.

Barometer: A barometer is a weather instrument that measures atmospheric pressure. The unit that the barometer uses is called MBAR. A classic mercury barometer is a 3ft. high tube with one end open and thew other sealed. The tube is filled with mercury and when presure pushes down on the mercury it pushes the mercury up the tube for a measurement.

Psychrometer:A psychrometer is a weather instrument that measures relative humidity. It measurement unit is percent. The pschrometer has to thermoeters and one is a wet bulb that measures the dew point. When it is slung the water evaporates and it cools the thermometer witch gives you the reading

Anemometer: A anemometer is a weather instrument that ,easures wind speed. It measures the wind in miles per hour(mph). The most widely used is the cup anemometer like in the picture on the left. When the wind catches the cups they rotate witch rotates the shaft they are connected to. They are connceted to a device that measures the mph the ind is going.

Rain Gauge: A rain gauge is a weather instrument that measures rain fall.
It measures rain fall in inches. It collects rain from an open area in a tube that is open at the top and closed at the bottom to hold the water in. They usually have one that has a measurer on it so it can tell how much water is in it before it evaporates.

Hydrometer:A hydrometer is a weather instrument that measures the amount of humidity in the atmosphere. This kind of hydrometer uses two basic mercury thermometers, one with a wet bulb one with a dry bulb. Evaporation from the water on the wet bulb causes its temperature reading to drop, causing it to show a lower temperature than the dry bulb. Then the relative humidity is calculated.
